Bravo to our primary students learning music

Written by Fr Elie Nyandwi. Posted in Home

Since the beginning of this year 2015, the SDB CALM Community has launched a campaign of training sixty primary school children of Don Bosco CALM in Brass band music. There is a high need of having many brass band players within our community. Our youngsters acquire music skills from their early age, and develop them little by little. Besides, we do all agree that these boys need entertainment, and music. It is one of the best ways of creating joy among the young and in the Salesian Community. As Don Bosco highlights it: ‘’A Salesian House without music resembles a body without soul’’. Another reason for this goes with that generation of our boys who are already in the Brass Band and who are completing their studies and preparing themselves to build their own future. This generation of boys is to be replaced by new players next year according to Uncle Wandera Joseph who is teaching and training our Brass Band boys and giving his precious time every Sunday. For this, thank you Uncle Joseph Wandera.

Preparatory exams for all primary students at Don Bosco Calm-Namugongo

Written by Fr Nyandui Elie. Posted in Home

This Saturday 21st February, early in the morning, the Rector of Don Bosco CALM launched the preparatory tests for all primary students at our home. These tests have been selected according to their curriculum in order to help them revise their courses. The policies used to examine our candidates are the same as that of the Uganda National Examination Board. (UNEB).This new strategy of testing our children has been unanimously approved and implemented by all members of Don Bosco CALM. The Don Bosco CALM members put their heads together, formulated relevant questions, and mark the tests in order to equip efficaciously our children with consistent knowledge. This will enhance the academic performance of our children and prepare them to face fearlessly their respective tests or exams which are coming very soon. Thus, from today, every Saturday morning and afternoon will be an occasion for each boy of Don Bosco CALM to celebrate knowledge through diverse preparatory tests.

Written by Ssebulime ponsiano. Posted in Home

As the holiday period approaches its climax, the boys at Don Bosco CALM are very aware of it and as a result, preparations for the new academic year 2015 have not left them behind. For the past few weeks, boys have made serious revision and have gone through a series of past papers to make themselves ready for the new academic year 2015 and as well as the challenge of new classes which they are joining come 2nd Feb 2015 the day for opening up. Much attention has been directed towards the primary section especially primary seven members who are candidates this year. They are being involved in writing different sets of past papers from different subjects to make them get used to setting criteria of examinations and these are being obtained from some of the best primary performing schools in the country. However, it is not only primary seven members who are being involved in this vigorous revision exercise but also other primary classes as well as secondary school members. Boys are provided with text books to help them get acquitted and well versed with what they get from teachers.

Revision is being carried out everyday from 8:30 -10:30 am where boys are organized to revise according to their respective classes. Here, they share knowledge among themselves and are assisted by the uncles, aunties and some of their brothers who are in higher institutions of learning. Better  results are expected  this yea from the primary seven , senior four and senior six candidates due to the good foundation that has been that has been laid which has provided  them with all the necessary materials needed for better performance. We wish them all best this year.
