Written by Felix Rubaga. Posted in Home

Every year, Don Bosco CALM Namugongo has a surprise. This year 2016 we had a pleasant surprise. God sent us twenty five (25) new boys, all poor and vulnerable. All are in Primary level which means that we don’t have any boy in Secondary level. The youngest of the new boys is 5 years of age. Five boys are Primary one; three boys are in Primary two, three boys are in Primary three, twelve boys in Primary four and lastly two boys in Primary six.

Guardian meeting held at Don Bosco CALM

Written by Br Robert Dias. Posted in Home

Though the meeting was scheduled to begin at 11:00am, it took off at 11:30am.The Rector  of Don Bosco CALM, Jean Marie Mushibwe, was held up by some urgent business which needed his presence. He expressed his apology to the audience. The meeting started with an opening prayer by Br Robert. The agenda for the meeting was then given to all participants in the meeting. The Rector took up the agenda and dealt with with it lucidly and vivaciously point by point. He made it clear that children here are to pray work, study and participate in games as Don Bosco system states; “honest citizens and good Christians”. The Rector also also talked about discipline and good conduct for children at Don Bosco CALM. He earnestly requested parents/guardian to instill good morals in their children.

The Rector asked guardians to read carefully the rules and regulations of Don Bosco CALM. He currently asked for their personal collaborations in this regard. The assembly participated actively in the meeting. A suggestion that came up was Saturday time table. Time should be allocated in the morning hours for music. There was a good turn-up for the meeting. All Salesians and social workers of Don Bosco-CALM were present. A good number of parents/ guardians were present too.The meeting ended at 2.00 pm with a prayer by the Rector. He thanked the parents/guardians for their presence. He then asked them to visit Don Bosco CALM and Don Bosco Primary School.

This is Don Bosco CALM Namugongo calling why this Title:  oh give thanks to the Lord for he is good. Yes: The conference of Don Bosco CAIM have every reason to say so: It is mid December 2015 and we were planning ahead our Christmas celebrations and the year2015/2016 El Nino rains are on- Well: on22 Dec 2015 a Sunday at 1:45am a little after mid- night disaster struck Salesian residence of Don Bosco CALM as well also the newly constructed DON Bosco primary school Namugongo.

Unexpectedly and from nowhere a storm was brewing up and while we were lost in slumber, disaster struck our campus. The storm was fierce with roaming winds and our two buildings took the impact. Some iron sheets roofing the new Don Bosco Primary School were also blown away and landed at Don Bosco CALM some 200 metres away.

The overhead tank- capacity 10000 litres perched on the top of an erected structure was thrown down one hundred metres to the ground and split into two- Salesian Residence of Don Bosco CALM also had its share. The room on the ground floor where Br Robert Dias resides got the brunt of the storm.   A deafening thunder bolt and a blinding flash of lightning hit the one of the windows panes. The glass sheet bullet proof was reduced to smith –er- reen. Br Robert was rudely awoken and did not dare to move. He was in shivers.

The rector Fr Jean Marie mushibwe took courage, got up, and at 2:30 am in heavy rain moved around with his flash-light to see what happened. He was dumb- struck for the moment. We, the Salesian conferes- were up for Sunday mass at 9:00am. No running water in our rooms, iron sheets that were blown off from the roof - top of Don Bosco primary school were lying at our entrance.  Br Robert’s room was flooded with rain water that came in through the gaping hole of the window. Fr Jean Marie immediately took pictures of the disaster that befell us and flashed them off to procure de missiones Salesians- 2008 Madrid Spain requesting for emergence help. In a jiffy Madrid responded “YES”.The monies arrived - it was Christmas and New year time. Holidays for firms and workers. It took 18 days to restore normalcy and have once again running water in our rooms.

Face lift to Don Bosco CALM boys Home

Written by Br Robert Dias. Posted in Home

For the first time in many years, most of our children were sent home in early December because of the long vacation due to impending general elections in Uganda. And so, this was a God-given opportunity to carry out major repairs for the first time in ten years since the Salesians of Don Bosco took charge of Don Bosco CALM.

Woks in Progress

To set the works in motion, Mr. Onen a Past Pupil of Don Bosco VTC-Bombo and a trust worthy-person was called to take charge of the operation. Mr. Onen is a Master Builder and has years of experience behind him. And so it was that our Rector Fr. Jean Marie Mushibwe got our few children, some twenty to clear all the Houses of beds, tables, chairs and what mattered. At first thought, our children took it as a joke, but then reality sounded and they got working in right earnest. This done, Mr. Onen and his five workers moved into action. This was systematically done. They began with House One. The flooring had given way. After hacking off the old floor and clearing the rubble, a new cement floor was laid and left to settle with water covering it. In the meanwhile, old faded paint from walls, both out side and inside, were being scrubbed off and some of us took a keen interest in the job. We learnt something. This united work was carried out to remaining Houses, Two, Three and Four.

Colour Scheme for House and Walls

Colour Paints are expensive in the market and the right colours had to be chosen. Mr. Onen together with our administrator Br. Hubert were entrusted with the task and so different colour paints were procured. Black, White, Red Oxide, Grey and Pea Nut and so this work took off in right earnest.  The ceilings in White, the walls in Cream, the lower pant of the wall Black, windows and doors Pea Nut colour as also the metal guards. Not forgotten are the Dining Room, the T.V Room, the Reading Room and the Corridors.

All in all, Don Bosco CALM has received a worthy face lift. I do pray that the Houses of the children, the T.V Room and the Dining Room be used for the right purpose. The T.V Room is not the room for eating, the Houses for restful sleep and not for chit chat or for games. I also pray the Houses and other sectors be kept clean, beds and boxes in order so that all feel at home. Good work has been achieved in a short time. Fr. Rector and Br. Hubert monitored the works closely.

Congratulations to all those who gave a face lift to Don Bosco CALM and for the pavers on the drive- way. And all this has been possible because of friends and benefactors who came forward to help us. Our Thanks to God Our  Father who has made all this possible.
