Brass Band

Written by Fr Jean Marie Mushibwe. Posted in Home

At the beginning of this year, we embarked on a mass training program of brass band playing for all the primary school going children from the Centre. This was so because of the serious need of having many brass band players within our community. Our youngsters acquire music skills from their early age and develop them little by little. Besides, we do all agree that these boys need entertainment and music is one of the best ways of creating joy among the young and in a Salesian community just as Don Bosco says that a Salesian house without music is like a body without a soul. The other reason for this campaign is that majority of the children who are already in brass band are completing their studies and are preparing themselves to build their own future and to live independently and for this reason we decided to train all the primary school going children. The children showed interest and portrayed a positive attitude towards this arrangement which made it quite easier for the trainer as he normally arrives and finds that the boys have set up everything just waiting for him.

Written by Fr Jean Marie Mushibwe. Posted in Home

Like St Don Bosco our founder welcomed people, Don Bosco CALM Namugongo is a welcoming home and every year we receive volunteers from Poland who came and stay, work, share, learn and pray with us. This year, we started receiving in them in July on 6th and first group consisted of Leen, Olo Wojtkowska and Agwieszke where by Ola was in charge of driving sick boys to the hospital as well as class teacher of primary four, Leen was in charge of the chapel as well as class teacher primary five whereas Agwieszke was in charge of the small boys of primary one and two. They were so loving and we appreciate their contribution throughout their stay at Namugongo up to now the boys ask of when they are coming back.

The second group of volunteers arrived on 6th Aug and consisted of GabrysiaRejak and Anna Musiat where by Gabrysia was in charge primary six class as well asKira ss garden not forgetting taking the sick boys to hospital where as Musiat was in charge of primary three class as well as Kamuli garden not forgetting the chapel and the boys’ games. This group also left and as usual a farewell party was arranged for them. Memories of their hard work and presence at Namugongo are still fresh in the minds of the boys and every at the centre. We are very appreciative for your contribution.

Ariko Thomas at Don Bosco Calm Namugongo

Written by Super User. Posted in Home

Thomas’ father died in 2010 and left five children of whom three were boys. Consequently, the uncles sent a way Thomas’ mother and she went to her own parents who also sent her a way with a reason that she had three sons and they would disturb in the future asking for land. Thomas was sent to the paternal uncles where he was seriously mistreated by making him to sleep with the goats with no food and clothing. The sisters of missionaries of charity came across this boy and traced his mother who was also in a miserable state. They gave her work in the school kitchen so that she could be able to raise house rent for the children. The sisters in conjunction with police brought the boy to Don Bosco CALM and he was received. He is living there happily with other vulnerable boys.
