Pope Francis at Namugongo

The Pope visited Uganda for three reasons. His visit was a pilgrimage, a pastoral obligation and a state visit. Pope Francis has been in Uganda to mark the 50^th anniversary of the canonization of the Uganda Martyrs by Pope Paul VI in 1964. The 22 Catholic converts were executed by Kabaka Mwanga after refusing to denounce their faith. Pope Paul VI canonized the Uganda Martyrs in St. Peter’s Basilica on October 18,1964. He later made a pilgrimage to Nmugongo and so did Pope John Paul II later in February 1993.

The Popes’ Visit Uganda

The afternoon the Holy father will travel to Entebbe, Uganda, where he will first meet with the president and political authorities. That evening, before retiring to the Nunciature, he will go to Munyonyo where he will greet catechists and teachers. The following day, Saturday,28 November, the Holy father will visit both the Anglican and Catholic Shrines of the Martyrs of Namugongo. He will celebrate Mass outside the Catholic Shrine. On Saturday afternoon there will be meetings with young peole and the bishops and clergy of Uganda, in addition to a visit to the charitable centre of Nalukolongo.Pope Francis will depart for the Central African Republic on Sunday morning, 29 November

The Salesian Games at Don Bosco Calm Namugongo.

It was a great day at Don Bosco calm Namugongo where all the daughters and sons of Don Bosco family from Uganda gathered for their annual Salesian games. That’s to say Bombo community, Kamuli community and Namugongo community. On 13^th.Nov.2015, daughters and sons of Don Bosco from Kamuli arrived at Namugongo calm in the late evening. They took their supper and they were shown where they had prepared for them to sleep.

In the early morning hours of Saturday 14^th.Nov.2015, we started the day with the holy Eucharist led by our rector Fr. Jean Marie. He called the Holy Spirit to guide us through out the day. By 9 o^’clock all the boys and girls had their breakfast and the brass band started while the participants well dressed in their sports suits matched. The games started well though weather was not good. The Kamuli girls and bombo girls were the first to play football and bombo won with 2 points. This was officiated by Brother Hubert. On the side of basketball, Fr.Jean Marie was the officiator of the game when Namugongo was versing Bombo. Namugongo managed to win Bombo with a big difference of points. At exactly 1 o^’clock they all went for their lunch and after they proceeded with the games. The final results were announced by Fr. Jean Marie. Bombo managed to win football both in girls and boys; Namugongo took the second position and Kamuli got zero points.
